A Word from Pastor Nathan
Dear Friends:
Wow! What a kickoff to the new program year we had on Sunday!
Here’s what’s on the docket:
- Whitechapel Ringers – Bell choir rehearsals begin Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Evan Collins has the bell room ready to go. Many of you have mentioned that our bells were cast in London. That’s true. But did you know the White Chapel Bell Foundry in London also cast the Liberty Bell and Big Ben? It’s true!
- Disciples History – Don Hange, Jr. will lead this study, which starts Sunday immediately following the morning worship service. Our denomination celebrated its 50th birthday this year, but our roots as the Stone-Campbell Movement are much older. Did you know we’ve had three presidents who were Disciples? (One of them was from Ohio.) I’ll buy coffee for the person who can name all three!
- WACC Orchestra – The instrument may be old and have some dust on it, but if you’d like to test your embouchure and technique, try the orchestra! Evan Collins ably leads this ensemble, which will rehearse this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. We look forward to the orchestra accompanying us in worship on September 29.
- Bible, Burger, and Beer – We’re going to take a look at the book of Galatians, which Paul wrote. Some biblical scholars suggest Galatians is the earliest book of the New Testament. (We’re certain that it’s at least 20 years earlier than any of the gospels). Paul is on a tear in Galatians, we’ll soon hear. I hope to see you on Mondays at the Foundry Kitchen and Bar. We’ll start ordering food at 5 p.m. and begin the study at 5:45.
- Chancel Choir – They’re back, and new members are joining (and returning). Alan Petersen does a fantastic job of leading this ensemble. He has an exciting year planned. Rehearsals are always open and take place each Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Word of mouth remains the number one factor for people deciding to visit a particular church. Who do you know that might be interested in joining with us? As you participate in these events, write a post on your social media account, share a post from our church Facebook page, or call a friend and say, “You’re welcome and wanted at Washington Avenue Christian Church. Come and see.”
Peace abundant,
