A Word from Pastor Nathan
Are you ready for an exciting Fall at Washington Avenue? Here are a few upcoming events that are inspiring passion and enthusiasm among us.
On Thursday, September 9, 6-7:30pm, the Christian Education Committee is hosting an Open House for Children Worship & Wonder. Throughout the pandemic, Debbie Walker’s ministry expanded from our doorsteps! Come see the space where children are invited to wonder.
On Sunday, September 12, multiple events are taking place. First, it’s Grandparents’ Sunday! The Christian Education Committee updated the display board across from the Elders’ conference room as a place where grandparents—or, let’s be honest, grandchildren—can take selfies with their loved ones. Immediately following worship, we’ll gather in Fellowship Hall to celebrate the ways in which our congregation has stayed together throughout the pandemic.
On Monday, September 13, 6-8pm, the Worship Committee is hosting a contemplative gathering that will include walking the labyrinth and engaging in four different reflection stations at your own pace. This time will be a landscape to find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead. If you’re not sure what to expect, don’t worry, not knowing is a good place to start. These gatherings will continue on the “First Monday” of each month.
September 17-19, the Outreach and Church Life & Growth Committees are co-sponsoring our booth at the Elyria Apple Festival. A sign-up sheet for two-hour shifts is available on the Welcome Table in the main hallway. Our involvement shows the Elyria community that we’re good neighbors and invested in the life of our town.
On Sunday, September 19, the Christian Education Committee is kicking-off a new adult bible study called “Two Or More.” Lauri Warfield will convene this gathering in the Gibbens conference room. I’m already energized by Lauri’s vision for this group.
I’m not even to the end of the month, and I haven’t mentioned the music rehearsals that have already been taking place under Evan’s leadership. If there’s this much energy and excitement in the first weeks of our program year, imagine where we’ll go by year’s end!
We are the church alive, dear friends, and I’m excited for the mission and ministries we share. The energy is palpable and a testament to the gift of faith at work among us.
Ready, set, go!
