A Word from Pastor Nathan
Friends, I have good news and bad news, and I’m leading with the bad news. After much marketing for the March on Washington and Debbie Walker’s excellent efforts to promote the event, there are not enough riders from Cleveland to meet the threshold for the company to provide the bus. I looked at renting a van as an option and staying two nights in a hotel, but this expense would more than exhaust our budget. That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news: We’re still going to participate in the March on Washington but on Washington Avenue instead of Washington D.C. Plan to join with WACC members on Saturday, June 18, at 9:30am for this important event. We will stream the March in the Fellowship Hall, but this is only the beginning of our work.
After the March, we’re going to use the funds allocated for the March on Washington to promote the future God wants and ultimately will have. Perhaps you’re interested in gun control. We’ll provide stamps and postcards for you to write elected officials. Perhaps you’re interested in reproductive health. We’ll have opportunities for you to learn about how this important aspect of healthcare enhances life for individuals, families, and communities. Perhaps you’re interested in the environment and creation care. We’ll have opportunities for you to learn about Green Chalice and promote the flourishing of the planet. Perhaps you’re curious about increasing voter turnout. We’ll learn about education initiatives and how we—as a polling location—can help turn out the vote.
On Friday of last week, I spoke to the donor of the funds for the March and expressed my concerns about the charter bus not making its minimum quota and uncertainty about renting a van. My heart was sad at the start, but Pentecost happened over the phone! The Spirit of God helped us think creatively. As a result, we have a plan that will make an impact from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth. Just imagine, Church, the good trouble we can create in Jesus’ name.
Marching with you,
